Renewable Natural Gas

Custom ASME Pressure Vessels for RNG Treatment Systems

Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) is one of the fastest-growing segments of the renewable energy industry, driven by increasing demand for renewable energy and reducing greenhouse gases. Facilities are being developed at landfills, municipal wastewater treatment plants, livestock farms, and food waste processing sites to capture biogas that can be upgraded into pipeline-quality RNG.

Raw biogas contains impurities including hydrogen sulfide (H₂S), carbon dioxide (CO₂), moisture, siloxanes, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). These contaminants must be removed through specialized gas treatment systems before the gas can meet pipeline specifications.

Tate Metalworks engineers and fabricates custom ASME pressure vessels designed specifically for biogas treatment systems, ensuring reliable purification.

In addition to pressure vessel fabrication, Tate Metalworks specializes in field erected steel welded digesters. These systems are critical to the production of biogas from organic waste streams and serve as a foundation for RNG generation.

Treatment Vessel Applications

Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) Removal Vessels

Hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) is a highly corrosive and toxic gas that must be removed to protect equipment and ensure safe operation. Tate Metalworks manufactures stainless steel ASME pressure vessels utilizing carbon media for effective H₂S removal.

These systems are critical for extending equipment life and maintaining process reliability in RNG and biogas upgrading facilities.

Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) Treatment Vessels

VOCs can negatively impact gas quality and contribute to environmental emissions. Tate Metalworks fabricates stainless steel ASME VOC treatment vessels with activated carbon absorption systems.

Siloxane Removal Vessels

Siloxanes are commonly found in landfill gas and wastewater biogas and can cause significant damage to engines, turbines, and other downstream equipment. These systems are essential for protecting capital equipment and reducing maintenance costs in RNG production facilities.

Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Scrubbing

Raw biogas typically contains 30–50% CO2, which must be removed to meet pipeline specifications.

Anaerobic Digester Tanks

Beyond treatment vessels, Tate fabricates tanks for anaerobic digestion systems that generate biogas from organic or industrial waste. These digesters play a critical role in landfill gas and biogas processing, capturing methane to be purified and utilized for direct injection of RNG into municipal pipeline systems.

Engineering, Fabrication & Field Erection Capabilities
Engineering, Fabrication & Field Erection Capabilities

Tate Metalworks offers comprehensive capabilities for Renewable Natural Gas capture and treatment:

Shop Fabrication: Our facility fabricates API tanks and ASME vessels by our ASME Section VIII quality control program. Our shop can fabricate vessels up to 14 feet in diameter and over 100 feet in length. Shop fabrication works well for smaller vessels, pressure vessels, and components that can be transported to your site.
