Design-Build Expertise for Industrial Storage Tanks

When you partner with Tate Metalworks, you get more than a fabricator. You get a full-service team that manages your project from initial concept through final delivery. Our design-build approach brings engineering, fabrication, project management, and quality assurance under one roof, giving you a single point of accountability and eliminating the coordination headaches that come with juggling multiple contractors.

For over 50 years, we've delivered shop-fabricated and field-erected steel and alloy tank products for industries that demand precision: chemical processing, water treatment, energy storage, and more. Our integrated approach means fewer delays, tighter cost control, and a finished product built to your exact specifications.

Let's Get Started

In-House Engineering and Design

In-House Engineering and Design

Our team of experienced graduate engineers tackles the technical challenges of building large-capacity storage tanks and pressure vessels using industry-standard design software. Whether your project calls for API storage tanks or ASME pressure vessels, we handle the engineering in-house rather than outsourcing it to third parties.

What this means for your project:

  • Direct communication with the engineers who design your tank
  • Faster turnaround on design revisions and technical questions
  • Engineering decisions informed by decades of fabrication experience
  • Design optimization for constructability (we build what we design, so we design what can be built efficiently)

Our engineers work closely with our fabrication and field crews from the start. This collaboration helps us identify potential issues early, recommend material selections that balance performance with cost, and develop construction sequences that minimize field time and risk.

Design capabilities include:

  • Custom tank and vessel design to client specifications
  • Code compliance engineering (API 650, API 620, ASME Section VIII, and others)
  • Structural and seismic analysis
  • Foundation and anchor bolt design coordination
  • Shop drawing development and approval management

Project Management

Every Tate project is assigned a dedicated project manager who serves as your single point of contact from contract signing through final walkthrough. Our project managers oversee and coordinate all phases: design conception, material procurement, shop fabrication, field erection, and commissioning.

Our project management approach includes:

  • Detailed scheduling and milestone tracking: We establish clear timelines upfront and provide regular progress updates so you always know where your project stands.
  • Procurement coordination: We manage material ordering, vendor relationships, and delivery logistics to keep your project on schedule.
  • Subcontractor oversight: When specialized trades are required, we coordinate their work and hold them to our standards.
  • Budget management: We track costs against estimates and flag variances early, so there are no surprises at closeout.
  • Communication and documentation: You'll receive regular status reports, and we maintain thorough project records for your files.

Our project managers bring field experience to the role. They understand what it takes to erect a tank safely and efficiently, which helps them anticipate challenges and keep work moving.

Quality Control

At Tate Metalworks, quality control isn't a final inspection. It's built into every stage of the process.

We maintain rigorous quality assurance protocols from material receipt through final testing. Our quality program is designed to catch issues early, when they're easiest and least expensive to correct, rather than discovering problems during installation or startup.

Quality control throughout the supply chain:

We have longstanding relationships with the suppliers who source our materials. We require material test reports (MTRs) to confirm accuracy and quality before materials ever reach our shop. This verification step ensures that the steel and alloys we work with meet the specifications your project requires.

Shop and field quality measures:

  • Welding procedure qualification: Our welding procedures are developed and qualified to meet applicable codes. Welders are tested and certified for the specific procedures they perform.
  • In-process inspection: We inspect work at critical hold points throughout fabrication and erection, not just at the end.
  • Non-destructive examination (NDE): We perform radiographic, ultrasonic, magnetic particle, and dye penetrant testing as required by code and client specifications.
  • Dimensional verification: We verify critical dimensions at multiple stages to ensure fit-up in the field.
  • Hydrostatic and pneumatic testing: Completed vessels undergo pressure testing per applicable codes before delivery or acceptance.
  • Documentation and traceability: We maintain complete records of inspections, tests, and material certifications for your project files.

Safety and quality credentials:

Our commitment to quality extends to how we protect our people. Tate maintains a low Experience Modification Rate (EMR) and a strong safety record. We require written safety plans for every project and conduct regular safety audits. When you see our team on your site, you can be confident they're trained, equipped, and focused on doing the job right.

The Design-Build Advantage

The Design-Build Advantage

Choosing a design-build partner like Tate Metalworks simplifies your project in ways that separate design and fabrication contracts cannot match:

  • Single-source accountability: One contract, one team, one point of responsibility. No finger-pointing between designers and builders.
  • Faster delivery: Overlapping design and fabrication phases compresses schedules. We can begin procurement and shop work while final details are being resolved.
  • Cost efficiency: Integrated teams find savings that siloed contractors miss. We design with fabrication efficiency in mind from day one.
  • Reduced risk: Problems get solved internally rather than becoming disputes between separate parties.
  • Consistent communication: Your project manager coordinates all disciplines, so you're never chasing updates from multiple sources.
